I have been twice before over the years, It's a very expensive suburb of Paris now and an interesting town which revolves around the Chateau. The Chateau is a place you must visit once in your life at least, and allow a full day or more as the grounds are huge. It's a commercial tourist trap, long queues and not enough people selling tickets though all staff are very friendly and helpful. I would have bought online but couldn't fathom the headset guide, you could add it then it disappeared at checkout. Turns out you can't and don't need to pre-order, they are available after ticket check at a desk in the entrance, no queue. You can buy tickets from Tourist Information (they have an allocation) to beat the queues. Don't take a very expensive tour, the audio gives the same information and there are plenty of signs to stop you getting lost. Fantastic place but more or less just a portrait gallery and heaven for lovers of architecture. Just stand there and wonder at the scale, opulence and grandeur of the place. Not much catering, just essentials but the catering staff will refill a water bottle for you free if you ask nicely (a bit of French is handy). Be prepared to get your elbows out as although access is limited there are a lot of people inside, be prepared to wait for pictures and be tolerant of the bored and ignorant being dragged around! Book one of the local hotels, we used the Ibis, a 5 minute walk and used a restaurant on Rue de Satory which has a good selection and just outside the gates.

Fantastic trip.
Fantastic trip. It had been on my bucket list for a long time and did not disappoint. Mercure hôtel exceptionally welcoming. Excellent breakfast.
Would definitely recommend.
The palace is of course the main reason to go to Versailles but I don’t advise visiting the inside on a Sunday. It was packed to the rafters and at time uncomfortably so.
But hey ho! I loved it all. Enjoy your trip…

Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors.
Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors. No taxi service, The train tour of the palace is a rip off. They make you stand in the hot sun while the entire crew of drivers take a long break for lunch. If you get off there is a long wait time before you can get a spot on another train. Large tour groups block passage to many exhibits. Signage throughout the gardens and some displays is very poor and non existent in many places. A real disappointment. The hotel staff and restaurants were all good and made our time spent with them very enjoyable.

Versaille is an excellent base for a stay in Paris away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, there was a great selection of local restaurants and a good evening vibe over the weekend.
We especially enjoyed visiting the local market which is open most days and felt it was a very safe area to wander around during the evening so ideal for lone travellers unsure where to stay in Paris. We also took the local RER train into central Paris which was easy to use and reasonably priced with a journey time of approx 40 mins, looking forward to returning to the area in the near future.

Beautiful town!
Beautiful town!
If you are visiting the palace I recommend hiring one of the golf buggies to see the gardens, you need your driving licence with you, €38/hour and €9.50 per extra 10 mins. We took our time going round, stopped at a few places for fresh squeezed orange juice (they have little carts at various locations) and paid a total of €57 which we felt was good value, everyone felt it was a real highlight, having the independence, and you also have a guide talking to you as you go round on a recording in the vehicle.
Perfect location for walking to explore Versailles and to any of the 3 train stations to Paris. Everything you need is in the apartment, which is clean and comfortable. On arrival there are parking spaces for your car outside, just pay by metre while you source keys and unload. Google maps takes u directly to door . Walk up towards park to right to find bike. Car park is about 6 min walk away but once we parked we never used the car for the 6 days. Recommend seeing the horse spectacular at the academy opp the Palace.
The location of Hotel De Lys was excellent. Easy to get to from the Palace of Versailles and centrally located to the market, restaurants and walking distance to the Palace if need be.
The staff provided excellent service and made it possible for us to park our van even though parking was not garunteed with our reservation.
The bathrooms are new and updated and the beds comfortable. Unusual for France, there were even mini-fridges in the rooms.
Very comfortable and clean! The staff was so accomodating and helpful to us when our daughter came with us last minute and we needed an extra bed. It was an easy walk to the Train station so we could get into Paris easily and the Palace of Versailles was only about a 15 min walk. Also a grocery store is right across the street.
The hotel is very well located - walking distance (+/- 900 m) to Versailles palace, in an area with many restaurants. The rooms are very clean, the staff was extremely friendly, giving us directions and suggestions. They have a small parking (around 9 places) which is great. We really enjoyed our staying!
It was a right decision to stay in this hotel to explore Versailles and Paris. Comfortable stay, good breakfast and safe underground parking. Location is perfect, calm area with walking distance to city center, to train station to get to Paris (30‘ to city center), close to palace and gorgeous park.
The location of this hotel is excellent if you are visiting the Palace of Versailles. It is also close to many restaurants, so your food choices are great.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They even let my family store our bags while we visited the Palace after our stay.
Easy 5 minute walk from train station. Beautiful modern hotel and room. Only a 5 or so minute walk to The Palace of Versailles. I would probably stay in Versailles longer than just the weekend as the town is interesting with nice shops & restaurants. Nice hotel with a great location!
Hotel La Residence du Berry is a great little hotel very close to the Versailles Palace. There is so much to explore in the city of Versailles itself that I wish I had stayed an extra day or two. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the reception was very warm and accommodating.
The bedroom was big but it was confused in style, the bed comfortable, bathroom was a good size and all worked well. The hotel is the in the best position for visiting the Palace of Versailles which was the point of our journey. The staff were generally very friendly.
Within 10 minutes walk from the station and Versailles Palace, the location is very good. The hotel is in High Street so lovely cake shops and cheese shops, etc. nearby. We had a family room which was very spacious. Reception was very friendly and speak English.
The hotel is lovely inside, our room was huge. The location of this hotel is it’s best aspect, as it right next to the Palace of Versailles. It’s in a quiet street with ample cafes and boulongeries close by. Definitely recommend this hotel, super value for money.
Well received by a very informed host who was able to provide a great knowledge of the palace of Versailles and the amenities in the town. Well equipped room with comfortable bed. Home made jams a little extra treat at breakfast.
Nice, comfortable room close to Versailles Palace. Good for a short stay, if you stay longer a room is a little bit small and the hotel doesn't have many amenities. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Very nice, modern hotel. Safe in room, water refilling station, breakfast, and restaurant and bar on site. Close to restaurants and the Chateau de Versailles.
