It was a reasonably size and the beds, although rather old, were comfortable
The lamp was broken and the wet room was truly awful - very old and worn out, badly designed and rather smelly. Also, the sound insulation was bad - it sounded like the person in the next room was lying next to me as I could hear him/her turn over!

"Expensive and very poor accommodation." (107137656)
not many but reception staff were pleasant.
The room was very small and dark and the bathroom was tiny. The shower was incorporated into the bathroom and everything was soaking wet. The door and door frame in there was rotten obviously following so many showers and the carpet was damp as you cam out of the bathroom. The bed linen (top sheet) had stains all over it. Generally a very poor hotel room. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Not much flexibility over Breakfast menu pricing - full English or pay the full charge for egg on toast as well.

"OK but I've had much better value for money elsewhere" (107202828)
The shower was very powerful.
The matress on the bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable. Breakfast coffee was cold and the choice of breakfast foods was limited. My ordered paper did not arrive.

"What I did appreciate were the superb facilites of the Leisure Centre, which are free to guests, and the friendliness of the cafe bar and eating area. My husband was in the hospital nearby and I needed to extend my stay which the staff were happy arrange and maintained my room rather than move me about. My daughter was with me for one evening and wished she had brought her children as the complex offered so much for them too, although children were never intrusive." (97794046)
It was quiet, functional I felt (as a single woman used to travelling with her husband) secure. It was basic - but that is all I required and it had all the necessary TV, hairdryer etc.
I had a moment of misgiving about the atate of the coverlet which was on the aged side and a little stained (but clean)

"The hotel room is Wet, dirty and stuffy." (107280275)
The location can be easily accessed by rail
The room is wet, dirty and stuffy. The cups and the tray for hodling cups is dirty and stained with tea. The water closet is not clean and with yellow stained. The facilities are not adequate and cannot be treated as a leisure resort.

"Generally, no paerticular complaints. The hotel was fine for what we wanted but it needs to think about whether it is a hotel with leisure club or a leisure club with rooms." (97022361)
Convenient location. Good leisure facilities
Room was quite small for a double or the double rooms I am used to and the decor/room facilities were a bit 'tired'

I had in total at the end Booked more then 14 rooms and one had a problem with Lights at 2 in the morning. Lot of the us came late including myself and they had NO Potter there to let us in for 45 Minutes and it was very windy and raining, the bell didint work to get in, though it said potter would be checking every 15 mins he didnt come to open the door and his answer to me was You should NOT pay the Bill because I have been telling the Hotel for One year and they cannot be bothered to fix it., I think this sums up everything, You should only stay in this Hotel if you are desperate.

"Disappointed with the poor state of rooms, but thought the bar food was good value and breakfast was excellent. Would not stay at the hotel again, unless provided a roomy, well decorated room." (97423889)
Quite good food in the bar/restaurant. Courteous staff. Sizeable pool in leisure centre area.
Very poor decorative order throughout hotel room areas. Rooms in poor condition, badly in need of refurbishment. Linen on beds torn and overworn. Blankets on beds with holes in them. Mildew and mould in bathroom area. Parking congested as leisure centre heavily used by non residents and hotel guests not provided with any designated, dedicated parking area.

Looked good accommodation when viewing on the Website but a bit different on arrival.
Poor welcome by receptionist, one towel, shabby room, no breakfast or internet included in price.

"The focus at the Galleon is obviously on the leisure facilities, which are very nice, and the changing facilities etc. are undergoing a refit so they will only improve. We cannot comment on the food as we did not eat there - although the 'Costa' coffee bar overlooking the pool was up to their usual standard. The rooms are quite small and décor is a bit 1980s and 'tired', but fine for a short break. There was no obvious noise overnight - and we had the room closest to the main leisure club entrance! The bonus of having the pool available for our young son far outweighed the room size etc - however the one thing that was annoying was the extremely uncomfortable mattress. The one thing that all hotels should try to get right is the bed!" (97810374)
The pool facilities were excellent
Room was a bit 'tired' - a lamp and the bathroom heater didn't work, for example. The bed was very uncomfortable.

The bathroom was old and tired and requires updating. The rooms could do with an overhaul.

"I've stayed in several hotels around south Manchester and the riverview/galleon is the best of a bad lot. It is at least quiet (at night, after the health club traffic has died away). However it feels run down and grubby and I was disappointed at the tiny quantity of soap/shampoo provided (only 1 shower per day?) and the wet-room arrangement - you either fight the curtain or suffer everything in the room becoming damp. I was anticipating to be stung for breakfasts and pleasantly surprised to find that these were included in the room charge, contrary to the information on the booking site." (97587802)
Quiet.
The bathroom. Few mains outlets. Expensive wifi service. Ambiguity over breakfast charges.

"The stay was adequate for our needs but who needs adequate when you can get so much better? I didnt mind about the small rooms and there were useful bits like an ironing board and iron and a hairdryer but why cant you mend the ceiling squares and generally paint the place up a bit? It's taking the mickey quite frankly. The only good point was the gym and pool but on the web the pool wasnt mentioned so I was the only one who brought a swimsuit with me. I would only recommend the hotel to someone if they were quite sporty and just needed a place to doss down and a good workout before checking out. Otherwise I would tell them they could do a whole lot better. All the staff in particular the reception staff were helpful and friendly though- but the budget price of the rooms shouldnt mean budget standards and in terms of accommodation it definitely was." (97212101)
I didnt like anything about the accommodation but I did like the staff who were friendly and courteous and I was pleasantly surprised by tghe gym and pool. They were fantastic and made up for the less than sulubrious surroundings elsewhere. Is the gym a franchise? |If so it makes sense that this was clean and modern while the hotel wasn't. It was disappointing that the juice bar wasnt open as I would have preferred to have had breakfast there. The english breakfast was okay but to have to pay
Everything was appallingly shabby. our room smelt of damp and had a damp patch on the ceiling. Paint was peeling off the walls and the whole place had an air of being unkempt and uncared for. If I had been staying more than one night I would have checked out early.

the room was in the basement and the view out of the window was a staircase. the television was not positioned in a convienient place to watch it in comfort. the room was extremely small. the shower was very small. the water in the sink went down very slowly due to the design of the plug. all night long you could hear the boiler firing up.

"As a last minute booking this was perfectly adequate. Having stayed in the centre of Madrid for " (99785206)
It was safe and warm.
I didn't like the walk-in shower which was very impractical. Despite closing the bathroom door, the water ended up on the carpet on the other side. It also meant once the shower had been used the bathroom floor remained soaking wet so if I was dressed I needed to remove my shoes, socks etc to use the bathroom facilities and then dry my feet afterwards. The other problem was the hotel isn't set up for pedestrians. I had to walk in the dark down a long windy unlit road and was almost knocked down by a car on the way to and from the hotel. It isn't very far from the main road or public transport and it shouldn't be assumed that people need taxis to get out and about. I was a guest at a party in the area and could get there on foot.

"As mentioned the general hotel was nice. We only stayed one night so didn't really use any of the facilities except the bar as we attended a party night with family which was good and the staff were nice. However the rooms as mentioned need a lot of care and the bathrooms especially need updating and refurbished. They were clean but due to the rust and old furnishings felt a bit grubby." (99377249)
Overall hotel was nice, in good surroundings and the party night we went to with family was good.
The rooms were of an ok standard, but the bathrooms could do with a complete refurb as it looks like they haven't been touched. There was rust on the bath and sink units, the shower was old and hard to get the temperature right and the shower curtain stuck to you in the shower which wasn't very pleasant and made it hard to shower properly.

"it was also close to where we were visiting and good distance from motorway, which after a long drive there was good not to have to drive through the city. However the instruction for how to get there could have been better - only from city and not from west M6. The sign for the Pub mentioned was so small we didn't see it from the direction we were travelling. The other place mentioned Parrs Wood was not signposted and we did not know it was a large Mall complex and again we could not see the sign - so we missed it first time. If the instructions said take filter road after large Mall/cinema complex, then we would have seen wher to go first time." (97898536)
it was clean, quiet and had good leisure facilities - and alongside the river it was in a good environment.
The heating - the room was too hot, even when we turned down the electric radiator. Also the bed was under the window which would only open fully and was then too draughty. Some of the fitting - round the bath etc had seen better days and looked like they could have done with a little renovation
