    "Not that good" (107479720)

    Convenience

Dining room closed in evening. Bar unwelcoming. Evening menu limited. No plug for washbasin in room. Breakfast adequate but obviously pre-prepared.

    "Overall a good stay" (97134314)

Staff were cheerful, friendly & helpful

The room & facilities were good, but the room was on the small side

"Ok except for the disaster of trying to get into the gotel." (107271825)

The Rooms were clean and accomidating.

The fact that we had to wait 25-30 minutes after ringing the door bell and knocking on the door to get into the hotel after going out for a meal and drinks. We were so distressed we had to ring friends to arrange for us to stay at there's. Fortunatly we managed to get the number and ring the hotel. A person jumped up from behind the desk and answered the phone, and then came to answer the door. I was most unimpressed!

from Turnditch , GB  on  July 27, 2008

"Overall I enjoyed my stay, I would definately stay again. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we went into Edinburgh so I couldn't comment on that apart from breakfast which was adequate for me but my husband loved it because he got Haggis!!!" (108076226)

I chose this hotel because it was very near to Murrayfield Stadium, and it was very close, absolutely perfect if you want to be in close walking distance of the ground. Also it was only a short taxi ride into the centre of Edinburgh. The staff where very friendly and helpful on arrival and very quick and efficient at booking taxi's.

Our room had a lovely new bathroom and the rest of our room was fine, but the restaurant decoration was very dated and a little shabby. I don't like too say bad things but don't expect fabulous wallpaper & curtains!! The bar area on the other hand looked as though it had had a recent facelift...that was lovely. Also I was woken about 1am by 2 members of staff stacking chairs outside our room on the landing-I went out to an apology from one of them and a grunt from the other....maybe he was tired too???!!!!

    "Overall a good hotel." (97738395)

    Excellent service.

I was not aware until checking in that my room was in the annex. But this was only a few yard away. Also the room faced onto the A8 which resulted in some heavy traffic noise.

  • 8/10 Sam ( Solo business traveller)

from Newtownards , GB  on  June 27, 2008

"my stay was very enjoyable and met a few new friends. the staff made me very welcome and food was fine." (97769629)

very comfortable room, food excellent, staff very helpful, very close to conference venue.

unaware of wireless facility for laptop at time of booking, decor needs a little improving and some handles in room were loose.

  • 7/10 Anonymous ( Young couple)

Room had character and was of good quality, hotel was on major bus route into city centre, staff efficient and helpful.

Breakfast could have been better - poor quality sausages!!

  • 6/10 Anonymous ( Other)

room clean, nice pub and food ok

Breakfast was a disgrace, we were in there for run the marathon, no yogurt, no bread, no service, 1 glass only of orange juice, no water for drink, and breakfast start at 8, marathon at 9!!!!!

  • 8/10 Roy ( Mature couple)

"Good budget accommodation with friendly staff.Rooms clean and good cooked breakfast.Very handily situated near bus stop with buses every 10- 15 minutes.Free car parking." (97102762)

situated close to bus stop and had free car parking

The Bed was a bit uncomfortable

  • 4/10 Julie ( Mature couple)

from Denbigh , GB  on  April 7, 2008

"The room was a possible health and safety hazard due to the afore mentioned, it was also draughty due to windows being held closed with gaffa tape." (97871938)

Food was good. Parking was a bonus. Locality.

Radiator hanging off the wall. Bathroom light not secured properly. Noisy people allowed to run riot throughout the night. No pressure to have a decent shower.

  • 10/10 Donna ( Young couple)

"Great value for money. The room was very clean and the facilities were excellent. Would definitely stay at this hotel again." (97584054)

Pleasant atmosphere and environment. Good location.

  • 8/10 Will ( Solo leisure traveller)

from Bury , GB  on  February 7, 2008

"Reasonable price (for a rugby weekend in Edinburgh), fantastic location, would recommend. Was disturbed on second night by another guest's alarm going off every couple of mins from around 4am - not hotel's fault obviously!" (97234798)

Room had everything I wanted/needed and was clean.

Very minor gripe about shower screen not being fixed and swinging open, resulting in spray on floor - likely to affect hotel more than guests.

  • 10/10 Gill ( Family with older children)

from Louth , GB  on  February 6, 2008

"The staff were very good throughout the weekend. The proximity to the Murrayfield stadium was literally across the road and because the hotel bar is rugby themed, this added to our enjoyment of the Six Nations weekend. The restaurant could do with redecoration but was clean and the food very good. Check your bill carefully on checking out as we had drinks on ours even though we paid cash throughout." (97585291)

    Bedroom/ensuite absolutely spotless.

The bedroom window being single glazed let in the cold and noise. Drinks charged to our room that were not ours as we paid cash for all our drinks and food at the bar.

  • 7/10 Phil ( Group of adult friends)

from Rotherham , GB  on  January 27, 2008

"Warm comfortable attentive staff. Hotel really needs a bit of smartening up. Dining room decor is poor. Food is good quality and well cooked tho'." (97975975)

    Warm, comfortable and clean

The key to another room unlocked my room door making my security grossly unsafe. It was just by luck this was found out. The TV remote was missing, promptly dealt with by reception staff. I reported a defective low voltage ceiling light over the wash hand basin in the bathroom. I was offered a room change which would have been disruptive so I refused this kind offer but would have liked a replacement lamp due to it creating a little difficulty shaving (I could have done with the light but it didn't happen)

Traditional hotel yet modern. Restaurant and bar on site and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

A long walk to the top floor - No elevator!

"The receptionist was v helpful, she offered to carry my luggagae, offered me continental breakfast by the night porter sincei was leaving early inthemorning, and arranged for the light bulb which was not working to be changed The evening bar meal was good value for money and served quickly. The night porter phoned my room when I was late for breakfast and all staff were v courteous and quite friendly." (97880070)

it was quiet and clean andincluded lovely towels and toiletries were supplied along with a kettle and coffee/tea

the furniture was a bit old, the wardrobe doors fitted badly, also lighting was poor and there was no lift to the 2nd floor

    no lifts in the lodge.

  • 8/10 Barbara ( Solo business traveller)

from Bradford , GB  on  July 10, 2007

"Great welcome, friendly staff, nice room. Bar staff not as professional as they should be, and decor in restaurant left a lot to be desired, but the hotel itself if just fine. Very varied menu in the bar\restaurant. It's not the place to stay if you're wanting peace and quiet, as although the hotel itself is reasonable quiet, the traffic on the main road is very noisy. Started out as a business trip - I was on a course from work, but added 2 nights and was joined by my partner for the weekend." (99025386)

Room had just been refurbished, so it was particularly tidy looking and clean.

Hotel is on the main road, and doesn't have double glazing, so traffic noise spoiled it somewhat

  • 9/10 Bridget ( Mature couple)

from Manchester , GB  on  July 6, 2007

"the Murrayfield fulfilled all our needs for our weekend stay visiting family. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and the location was ideal for touring the city." (99166991)

An extremely comfortable bed and more than adequate breakfast. The hotel has very convenient access to the city with a regular bus service virtually on the doorstep.

A minor complaint really: the bed took up a lot of space , leaving little room for movement, but the comfort of the bed more than made up for this.

  • 8/10 Anonymous ( Group of adult friends)

"I cannot really add anything further, your information stated car parking, withing 20 minutes walking distance of the city. All these things are what we were looking for. I will cetainly use your hotel again" (99531253)

Good, wawre of the refubishment but did not pose a problem.

  • 8/10 John ( Mature couple)

    from Chorley , United Kingdom;GB  on  June 8, 2007

"As we were visiting Edinburgh to watch rugby at the Murrayfield stadium, we were delighted to find that the Hotel was a very short walk away and we were able to leave our car at the hotel. Many rugby fans congregated at the hotel after the match which added to the atmosphere and was in no way an intrusion to our stay. The dining room was peaceful and offered a reasonable selection of evening meals, and breakfast was satisfactory. We would certainly stay there again." (99663810)

Although it was a 'lively' hotel, we had no disturbances whilst in our room, which was recently decorated and very comfortable.

  • 9/10 Grahame ( Mature couple)

    from Forfar , United Kingdom;GB  on  June 7, 2007

"I have used this hotel in the distant past and the upgrade of the facilities has been carried out to a high standard." (99279253)

An older hotel but with modern facilites just added. Large public bar with modern music. Out door tables and chairs with a BBQ. Very convienient for sports stadia and the Zoo. The choice of breakfast was extensive and the items freshly cooked

The blue lighting in the bar was a bit strange.

  • 10/10 Jonathan ( Solo business traveller)

from Rampton , GB  on  May 31, 2007

"From the warm greeting at check in to my departure i can honestly say i enjoyed my stay. Although only over night the bed was very comfortable, room was clean, free wi-fi so for the business customer, being able to collect emails was a blessing. The bar is fantastic and food is excellent. I'll be back next time i'm in Edinburgh." (99488219)

What a pleasent place to stay. Staff are a credit.

A little small, but more than acceptable.

  • 8/10 Mary ( Group of adult friends)

    from Liverpool , United Kingdom;GB  on  May 2, 2007

"Although we only stayed for one night, the standards were high within the hotel, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent." (99928311)

The hotel was very accomodating as there was three adults in the party and we were all able to stay in the same room. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was first class.

Parts of the room were unfinished with plaster and no paint, however the standards of cleanliness were excellent.

  • 9/10 Joe ( Young couple)

from Warrington , GB  on  April 26, 2007

"The staff were very friendly. The hotel had free parking and was on a regular bus route into Edinburgh Centre. The room had been recently re-furbished, had a big bed and good size bathroom, it was bright and comfortable. Definatley better than expected for a 2* hotel. There was noise for half an hour or so v.early on Sunday morning as people arrived back from clubbing, but no more than you would expect at almost any hotel, it stopped as soon as the people entered the hotel. Some parts of the hotel were a bit tired looking, but in contrast with the areas that have clearly been recently re-furbished to a good standard. This hotel was a great place to explore Edinburgh from and the free parking allows the freedom to explore the surrounding area also." (99403084)

Free Parking, Friendly Staff, Good Transport, Clean Room, Good Breakfast.

Some noise late at night from other guests. Some of the public areas overdue for re-furbishment.

  • 9/10 David ( Other)

from Luton , GB  on  April 20, 2007

"My brother and I have used this hotel a number of times. We like the location and value for money. If I needed to know anything as a visitor to Edinburgh it would probably be more information on transport times. Really if you want a comfortable stay at a reasonable cost withn easy access into the city or out into the surrounding areas, you could'nt be better positioned. It's also on the main road out to the Airport, so there is regular paasing transport. No need to get an expensive taxi with so many buses going past the door." (99255481)

near to city and airport. On main through route. Cheap comfortable accommodation and good food.

Some of the rooms that we have stayed in previously in the main hotel could do with a refurb, but the Lodge accommodation is of a good standard.

The room was recently refurbished and clean, but the double bed was oversized for the room. Good Scottish breakfast and good service.

The breakfast room was rather dark and dingy and could have done with better lighting and some redecorating.

Value for Money, proximity to Murrayfield Statdium. Collegaues stayed at the Holiday Inn paying far more but not receiving a noticably better quality of service/accomodation.

    TV Remote control absent
